The Ten Commandments

I’ve been wanting to do a blog post on The Ten Commandments for some time now.
I’ve definitely changed my view on the numbering of The Ten Commandments.
I used to hold to the Reformed/Calvinist view of the numbering of The Ten Commandments.
I was a Calvinist for 5 or 6 years.

Whatever religious tradition you come from remember this: we are not saved by keeping God’s Law. We are saved by grace through faith.

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Ephesians 2:8‭-‬9 ESV

This is the numbering of The Ten Commandments in Luther’s Small Catechism:

The First Commandment:
You shall have no other gods.

The Second Commandment:
You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God.

The Third Commandment:
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

The Fourth Commandment:
Honor your father and your mother.

The Fifth Commandment:
You shall not murder.

The Sixth Commandment:
You shall not commit adultery.

The Seventh Commandment:
You shall not steal.

The Eighth Commandment:
You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

The Ninth Commandment:
You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.

The Tenth Commandment:
You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife,or his manservant or maidservant,or his ox or donkey,or anything that belongs to your neighbor.

I highly recommend Luther’s Small Catechism.
