Matthew 7:1 I would say is one of peoples’ favorite verse to distort and twist. And they will interpret and say that Christ is saying to not judge at all or don’t make judgements. People will usually use the verse if they get caught sinning and they’ll try miserably to use the verse to justify their sin.
And they’ll usually say, “Judge not lest ye be judged,so don’t judge me bro.”
People that twist Matthew 7:1 will often not quote the several verses after Matthew 7:1.
“Judge not, that you be not judged.
Matthew 7:1 ESV
If you read Matthew 7:1 in context then you’ll see that Christ has said to not make hypocritical judgements.
“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
Matthew 7:1-5 ESV
Also an excellent point is in John chapter 7.
Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.”
John 7:24 ESV
